Overview

A “Bicycle Tour” in Archeological Park Forest is a unique experience to explore the temples, ruins and authentic local village life with tropical forest scenery of Angkor temple complex. After approx. 2-3hrs (depending on your fitness!) your route winds up at Srah Srang, the “Royal Bath”, where you can take a rest overlooking this reservoir before wind your way through temple sites without having to retrace your steps

Begin your two-wheeled adventure at Srah Srang then photogenic Ta Prohm temple of “Tomb Raider” filmed. Cycle through the ancient temple of Ta Nei before the jungle trail, wind your way through temple sites without having to retrace your steps. Undisturbed by crowds of tourists you can better appreciate the interplay of man and nature at this magical site.

Head through the forest to the seldom-visited Ta Nei temple – there is reasonable chance of having this beautiful Angkor to yourself to explore. Pedal on to Ta Keo, known as the “mountain with bronze peaks”, and admire its five-tiered pyramid structure.

Continue on your cycling tour along the path beside the 8m high laterite city wall (500m) to the Death Gate. From high up on the ancient laterite city walls of Angkor, then cycle beside the city wall to South Gate, embark on a gentle two-wheeled adventure along shady forest paths to end you bike tour where you start at the impressive South Gate picturesque. This is an opportunity to connect with the real nature well away from the crowds.

Remote temples & countryside

Overview

Beyond the temples lies a rural landscape which is often little changed since the days of Jayavarman VII. To depart Siem Reap having seen only the temple ruins is to miss contemporary Khmer culture and a living history of rice and fishing subsistence lifestyles that reflecting the Angkorian Era.

Morning: The tour activities will begin with two-wheeled adventure at Srah Srang, as you pedal off to Pre Rup temple. Discover rural and hidden Cambodia away from the crowds, departing from the main road as you explore countryside back roads, waving at locals as you cycle to Banteay Samre temple, with Angkor Wat-style architecture and artistry (built by Suryavarman II) and its looming lion statues.
Continue back on the main road, with the opportunity to stop at contemporary Khmer a living history and culture of Preah Dak Village where you will learn and see beyond Angkor about Khmer crafts, such as bamboo basketry. Get the chance to taste Khmer noodles and/or snacks which are a delicacy of this Angkorian attraction area and locals are known to come all the way from Phnom Penh to buy these here, as well as the chance to try sugar palm sweets – great for your sweet tooth.

After the explore of the local village you will be transfer by vehicle heading for lunch at the local restaurant on the way to Banteay Srey Temple

Afternoon: Begin again and travel through pretty villages and rice paddies to explore the beautiful Banteay Srei [AD967] distance 37km from Siem Reap town. This beautiful pink sandstone temple is well-known for its intricate carvings, of which hardly any space is left untouched and its perfect state of preservation.

Angkor Wat Sunrise and Tonle Sap Great Lake

Overview

Create a single magic day explore the “hidden treasure” of Khmer Empire. You will enjoy and experience the complex of Angkor Wat and appreciated the magnificent architecture of Angkor Era. There is a chance to explore around the beautiful of the magical Angkor temples and further attractions one of travel’s remaining great adventure of peaceful Tonle Sap Lake and genuine stilted villages – for an understanding of unique contemporary lake life and unforgettable destinations.

Early morning

Start at 4:30 for Angkor Wat Sunrise tour starts at pre-dawn to witness the breathtaking view of Angkor Wat temple, the best place for photography. Continue to explore the central complex and bas-reliefs of Angkor Wat [AD1113], one of travel’s remaining great adventures, before returning to the hotel for a late breakfast.

Begin again to explore the great Tonle Sap Lake, the richest fresh water fishing ground in Southeast Asia, a national treasure producing an ever-changing landscape. The communities that live around the margins of the lake cope with huge seasonal variations in water levels by building their homes on floating bamboo rafts or 30ft stilts. It is well worth the extra effort to get away from the touristy village of Chong Kneas to the more genuine stilted villages – Kompong Khleang or Kompong Phluk (dependent on water levels) – for an understanding of contemporary lake life.

Take the opportunity to pause at the stilted houses to see learn how a subsistence fishing family lives, before continuing by boat along the margins of the lake. While you explore the life on the water. You will enjoy lunch at the local home, while absorbing the atmosphere of this unique locality
On the way return to town, depending on time, you may like to continue to explore the earliest Angkor capital in the region Hariharalaya [AD881] near the contemporary town of Rolous. The two most important temples in the Rolous group are Preah Ko and the very picturesque Bakong with its photogenic moat and/or optionally pause at Wat Lolei to receive a water blessing from the monks at this contemporary Buddhist pagoda, said to bring good fortune for the journey ahead.

Full day remote temples

Overview

Visit the ancient capital of Koh Ker, and mysterious Beng Mealea. The countryside to Koh Ker and around Beng Mealea is very picturesque and far enough away from Siem Reap to be virtually unaffected by growing tourism to the country. There are plenty of opportunities on the journey to stop and look around, take photographs, understand the local agriculture and sample locally made, sugar sweets.

Travel to the 100km distance northeast of Angkor, Koh Ker is one of the ancient capitals of the Angkor civilization which today rarely and few visitors. Built between 928 and 944 under King Jayavarman IV and his son, Harshavarman II, the complex is made up of many small, unique temples though dominated by the impressive pyramid-shaped Prasat Thom, with its striking similarities to Mayan temples and panoramic views from its peak. The area is scattered with a total of around 42 major structures, include some of the largest Shiva lingas to be found in Cambodia.

Explore some of the smaller sites – which you will likely have to yourself – starting with Prasat Pram where the crumbling ruins are gripped by twisting tree roots. Turning right in the Koh Ker ‘loop’, to take in some of the smaller temples as well as the Linga shrine, before culminating at imposing Prasat Thom where you can climb the wooden staircase to reach the top for expansive views over the surrounding countryside. 

A local lunch (own cost) can be taken at one of the restaurants in the temple complex area before driving to the mysterious jungle-clad Beng Mealea, described as the blueprint for Angkor Wat.

Built under the control of Suryavarman II, this 12th century temple, overgrown with roots and vines, is in a much-collapsed state retaining a very atmospheric feel. Venture into darkened doorways skirting crumbling pillars and walk down the long promenades lined by naga balustrades. Take advantage of the walkways to traverse the ruins and scramble over tumbled stones in the less-explored courtyards.

Village walk and sunset

Overview

A host family will show you and talk about food and family and show you how to cook the local food including the famed Fish Amok. All ingredients are locally sourced, many from the surrounding village and homestay gardens.

You will be will be introduced to an array of exotic local flavors whereby you will create your own dishes and enjoy a day or evening own cook meal featuring local foods. It begins with a walk in the scenic greenery vegetable fields in Chhreav village to see the unique lifestyles and sample traditional greens garden learn cultivation practices – from planting to harvesting, spend some time with the locals to get a better insight understand the rural life. Explore to the local fresh market and collect fresh vegetables, herbs, meat and fish back to a host family homestay and ends in an interactive Khmer cooking experience.
